After upgrading Titanium Studio to 3.3.0 the distribution configurations are missing.

In 3.3.0, the launch configurations are tied strictly with the launch mode. The distribution configurations are moved specifically to package mode. In the global launch toolbar, if you change the launch mode to package, and then open the 'Configurations...' dialog (in the drop-down of launch shortcuts), it will show up the distribution configurations.
I have noticed. There is one weird thing though. The old distribution configurations are also in the list, but don't work anymore. Creating new ones works as you have stated.
I'm afraid that they have to re-create the distribution launch configurations the launch mode is changed.
