It appears you are attempting to install Appcelerator Studio over Titanium Studio. This will cause problems. Are you sure you have the correct update URL?
I just click the update button because studio gives me a message that an update is available. Thats it. I start titanium studio, it gives me a message in a popup with "titanium updates available.. Click here to install the latest updates". Clicking on this shows a confirmation window to install titanium 3.4.01409237002. Clicking ok shows a box with "errors encountered during update" To get 3.4.0 in the first place I followed your instructions here: http://preview.appcelerator.com/appcelerator/studio/standalone/update/rc/ thats all I know.
[~rvwoens] Can you send us the screenshot of the preference page at Install/Update > Available Software Sites (and make sure the Location column is clearly visible)? We would like to know which URL is selected to check for updates. Also, provide us the current installation details screenshot of Studio through 'About Titanium Studio > Installation Details'.
Along with the screenshots, can you attach the error message details that you are seeing while updating Studio.

There you go. You have added the update sites for both the products Titanium Studio and Appcelerator Studio. Can you please un-select (or remove) the update site related to appc-studio with name 'driepuntvier' and then, 'check for Titanium updates' from Help menu.
same problem. so if I understand what you are saying I need to uninstall "appcelerator studio" somehow.
The current installation has duplicate entries for 'Titanium Studio'. I don't know how did it end up into this situation, but I guess you might have accidentally installed Appcelerator or Titanium Studio product on top of the existing installation. Instead of removing all of those duplication entries and fixing the current installation, I would recommend to download the new RC release from http://preview.appcelerator.com/studio/
